סיקור הכנס השנתי 2016 | 27-30.10.2016
בתאריכים 27-29 באוקטובר התקיים בחיפה הכנס השנתי ה-21 של החברה הישראלית לחקר, מניעה וטיפול בטרשת העורקים. בכנס השתתפו למעלה מ- 100 רופאים וחוקרים מישראל, ארה"ב, קנדה, גרמניה, יוון והולנד.
הכנס, שהתאפיין ברמה מדעית גבוהה מאד, עסק באספקטים השונים של טיפול ומניעה של טרשת העורקים וסיבוכיה – מחלות לב וכלי דם. בין השאר הוצגו מחקרים בנושא הביולוגיה של טרשת העורקים ושומני הדם, כבד שומני, הערכת הסיכון לפתח מחלות לב וכלי דם באמצעות הדמיה, תזונה וטיפולים תרופתיים מתקדמים.
כבכל שנה, היווה הכנס כר פורה לבניית שיתופי פעולה בין חוקרים ישראליים לבין טובי החוקרים בעולם ולקידום המחקר בארץ.
אורח הכבוד של הכנס היה פרופ' נביל סיידה מקנדה, שגילה את חלבון ה- PCSK9. גילוי זה הביא לפיתוח תרופות מתקדמות שאושרו לאחרונה לשימוש לטיפול ברמות גבוהות של כולסטרול. תרופות אלה נמצאות בשלבי מחקר מתקדמים כדי לבדוק את יעילותן במניעת מחלות לב וכלי דם.
במסגרת הכנס הוצגו גם מחקרים של חוקרים צעירים, ושלושה מהם אף זכו בפרסים – מלגות להמשך המחקר. כן הוצגו הצעות למחקר עתידי, ושתיים מהן זכו אף הן במלגות.
הכנס הסתיים בהענקת פרס מפעל חיים לפרופ' ארדון רובינשטיין על תרומתו רבת השנים למחקר ולטיפול בטרשת העורקים.
