Symposium 30: Visceral and ectopic fat, atherosclerosis, and cardiometabolic disease
Prof. Arai, the organizer of this symposium, tells us the highlights of this session:

Emerging evidence suggests that ectopic fat deposition,
including hepatic and epicardial fat, contributes
to increased atherosclerosis and cardiometabolic risk.
In this symposium, we will discuss the measurement of visceral
and ectopic fat, pathophysiology and contribution to adverse health outcomes,
response to treatment, and lessons from a public health program targeting visceral and ectopic fat.
We also recognize the need for public health messaging
to focus on visceral and ectopic fat globally.
Sarcopenic obesity is a new entity to be addressed for healthy aging in most of the countries
due to population aging. Therefore, the diagnosis and intervention will be discussed.
